Pandemic Influenza Workforce Resilience Toolkit


Workforce Resilience Resources

Workforce resilience is promoted through coordinated activities that focus on pandemic planning, building psychosocial supports, and staff training and education.

This section of the Toolkit provides access to a wide range of resource materials that support the development of a workforce resilience program. The resource materials are organized into the following four sub-sections:

Planning and Preparedness      Organizational Resilience      Staff Training      Educational Materials

Planning and Preparedness ~ Resilience is fostered in organizations by anticipating the effects pandemic may have on an organization and developing plans to limit the negative effects. It is promoted by the ability to prepare for organizational impacts and then implement realistic plans.

This sub-section includes resource materials that are focused on pandemic influenza planning and preparedness. It includes:

Guidance Documents and Toolkits that outline essential elements of an organization’s pandemic influenza plan and

Checklists to assist staff as they continue the development of a pan flu plan.

Organizational Resilience ~ Resilience is promoted in organizations that actively work to create a supportive workplace. Pandemic influenza will increase stress on organizations and employees. The impact of these stressors can be reduced by increasing or strengthening activities that mitigate the psychological effects of pandemic on the workforce and their families. These strategies focus on the human impact of pandemic.

This sub-section includes:

Guidance Documents and Toolkits that provide guidance on how to build psychosocial supports into the workplace and to identify existing supports that need to be expanded during a pandemic and

Checklists to assist staff as they continue to incorporate psychosocial support into the workplace.

Staff Training ~ Staff training during pandemic supports resilience by increasing awareness and knowledge regarding the influenza and the protective strategies that can be employed to mitigate the physical and emotional effects. A strong training program provides staff with the tools to take protective steps. Training can also be utilized to convey organizational readiness and the response plan as the pandemic progresses.

This sub-section provides training resources that can be used to educate staff regarding the physical and emotional effects of pandemic and steps that can be taken to address them. The training resources are organized as follows:

Educational Materials ~ Educational materials support resilience in ways similar to training. These resources can be used to support training activities and to increase staff knowledge about pandemic.

A good resource library also acquaints staff with organizational and community resources that can be accessed during a pandemic. This sub-section includes a broad range of resource materials including fact sheets, posters, and brochures that are designed to increase knowledge and awareness about a range of pandemic-related issues.
